Former diners from MasterChef Australia have revealed one of the behind the scenes secrets of Channel 10’s long-running reality TV hit.

According to fans who have appeared on the show, diners don’t usually have have to pay for their meals.

The comments came after one contributor to the Facebook fan site asked followers ‘I wonder if diners have to pay for their meal? And for that matter, where they come from?’

One fan responded: ‘Apparently they are friends of the crew and contestants.’

Meanwhile, another fan suggested that the diners who appear on the show  ‘have to pay’, though another viewer disagreed, posting, ‘I think [the meals] are free for everybody.’
