Two murderers who fatally stabbed the son of a Tory party activist as he went out to Waitrose because they mistook him for a gang rival are now facing life in prison.

In a 20-second incident, a group of six youngsters attacked and killed 22-year-old aspirant lawyer Sven Badzak.

While kicking and hitting Mr. Badzak, Rashid Gedel, 22, and Shiroh Ambersley, 22, also stabbed his 16-year-old companion in the back four times. On August 3, the couple will be sentenced at the Old Bailey.

Jasna Badzak, a former activist for the Conservative Party, said that her son was attacked in Willesden, northwest London, while on his way to Waitrose to buy orange juice.

Mr Badzak, who was privately educated at Wetherby and Portland Place schools before attending Roehampton University, could not be saved despite the best efforts of passers-by, paramedics and police.

His friend, who is now 19 years old, managed to rush into a Tesco store in Willesden Lane and scream for aid. He did not feel as though he had been stabbed in the back. Later, he received treatment for a collapsed lung.

CCTV footage and bragging Gedel posted on social media after the attack helped authorities identify him.

He has 13 convictions for offenses like robbery, weapon possession, money possession, threatening behavior, and assault, among others.

Ambersley asserted that he was pursuing Mr. Badzak because he wanted to sell him cocaine, not because he intended to harm him.

He has received ten prior convictions for offenses like assault and knife possession. Despite their denials, Gedel and Ambersley were found guilty of killing Mr. Badzak.

They were also convicted of wounding his teenage friend with intent to cause grievous bodily harm but cleared of attempting to murder him, after the month-long Old Bailey trial.

The jury deliberated for 25 hours and 46 minutes before finding the defendant guilty by a vote of 10 to two.

Gedel made the decision to skip today’s verdicts in court.

Pre-sentence reports were requested by Judge John Dodd, KC, who stated: “They are both young men who are about to begin very long periods of imprisonment.”

At the beginning of the trial, Harvey Canavan, 19, admitted to the manslaughter of Mr. Badzak and the unlawful wounding of his companion.

He was out on bail for robbery and wounding at the time of the incident. He has six convictions for crimes, including robbery and wounding.

Lior Agbayan also said to have been involved in the attack, fled abroad after the stabbing, and his extradition to the UK is being sought. Two other suspects have not yet been identified by police.

The killers were members of the SK, also known as the South Kilburn gang.

Their victim had been pictured with Boris Johnson, David Cameron and George Osborne as a child.

“On Saturday, February 6, 2021, at 17:37, Sven Badzak and his friend were walking west along Willesden Lane in Kilburn,” prosecutor Anthony Orchard, KC, earlier told the jury.

Six young people attacked them in what appeared to be a gang-style attack as they were walking.

Sven Badzak and [his pal] both suffered stab wounds. At 18:28 that night, Sven Badzak’s existence was declared to be extinct. Neither victim was a part of or associated with a gang. They seem to have been the unfortunate victims of identity theft.

The assailants fled after the stabbings. The first two of the group of six attackers were Rashid Gedel and Shiroh Ambersley.

‘Both have been identified from CCTV footage and by boasts made by Gedel on his social media accounts after the attack.’

Mr Badzak’s friend said in a police interview played to the court: ‘Sven was stabbed and I was then stabbed.

It resembled a typical kitchen knife and a cutting tool. They all had knives, but I seem to recall that one cut me. He was holding a knife, but I couldn’t feel it.

‘I rushed because I had no idea if it had passed through [me]. I quickly crossed the street to Tesco. I screamed for help and raced right through to the desk, where I declared that I had been stabbed.

“The counter employee led me around to the back.” I was carried to the security guard’s office, where he laid me down and dialed for an ambulance.

The adolescent claimed that he played football frequently in the area and added, “There’s never been any trouble down there before.” They are people I have never seen before.

On the day of the attack, Gedel and Ambersley went into a Wenzel’s Bakery near Willesden Lane.

Mr Orchard said: ‘Gedel is captured on CCTV going into the shop, walking up the right of the two young people and apparently inspecting them, before leaving. He then rejoins Amersley, nothing at all was bought.

“We speculate that Gedel and Ambersley were scouting out a youth or youths to attack for the group they were with.”

When they were observed by the gang on Willesden Lane, Mr. Badzak had just returned from Waitrose on Finchley Road, approximately a mile away, and his friend was using his phone to watch a Liverpool football game.

Gedel got closer to them, according to Mr. Orchard. Actually, Sven Badzak and his friend were just going about their business. They had no idea who was following them at all.

The other four members of the group joined Ambersley a few seconds after she did as Gedel drew near.

‘A bus CCTV camera recorded some of what happened next. Gedel and Ambersley caught up with Sven Badzak and his friend close to the red post box outside 22 Willesden Lane.

‘Bus CCTV, Route 98, as the bus moves off, shows Gedel and Ambersley a few feet away from Badzak and his friend.

They were attacked together with Sven Badzak’s friend. A companion of Badzak’s recalls three boys approaching them and asking, “What are you on?”

Then, Sven was stabbed in the chest by one of the boys, and his friend was stabbed in the back.

‘After being stabbed, the friend fled west along Willesden Lane while being pursued by what he believed to be three individuals. He can recollect a total of six assailants. Six of them worked together.

Mr. Badzak attempted to flee as well but stumbled.

After being stabbed, Sven Badzak was only able to make it to the outside of X Burger before passing out.

He was re-captured by his assailants near the X Burger on Willesden Lane. The ground was where Sven Badzak was.

‘It appears he was kicked and punched. During the totality of the attack, he is stabbed four times. His phone falls to the ground, but no attacker attempted to retrieve it. The attack on Sven Badzak lasted no more than about twenty seconds.’

Gedel, of Ilford, east London, and Ambersley, of Wembley, north-west London, both denied but were convicted of murder, attempted murder and wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm. Canavan, of West Kilburn, admitted manslaughter and unlawful wounding.

After Sven’s passing, Jasna, 51, revealed that her son had always desired to help people and had given some of his clothing to Grenfell Tower fire survivors.

She added that because he was a doctor, he had requested her to teach him first aid in case someone had a heart attack or had been stabbed and collapsed in the street.

She pleaded with politicians, including former Prime Minister Boris Johnson, to assist her in obtaining justice for her son as a Tory party activist.

She uploaded photos of Sven as a little boy with Johnson, George Osborne, and David Cameron to the internet.

Later today, Judge Dodd is anticipated to set a sentencing date.
