Who is Amir Khan?

 

Amir Khan was born (born 8 December 1986) and raised in Bolton, Greater Manchester, England, to a Pakistani Punjabi Rajput family with roots in Matore village of Kahuta Tehsil, located in Rawalpindi District of Punjab, Pakistan. He was educated at Smithills School in Bolton, and Bolton Community College. He is a Muslim and a member of the Naqshbandi Sufi Order.

British former professional boxer Amir Iqbal Khan competed from 2005 until 2022. Between 2009 and 2012, he was the undisputed light-welterweight world champion, holding the WBA (later Super) and IBF titles. He held the Commonwealth lightweight title in his region from 2007 to 2008. He also formerly competed for the WBC and Ring magazine middleweight titles in 2016, and he held the WBC Silver welterweight title from 2014 to 2016.

At the 2004 Olympics, amateur boxer Khan took home a silver medal in the lightweight division, making him the youngest Olympic medalist in boxing from Britain at the age of 17. He received the ESPN Prospect of the Year award in 2007.

After earning the WBA championship at the age of 22, he went on to become one of the youngest British professional world champions ever.

He is a philanthropist with his own nonprofit, the Amir Khan Foundation, outside of boxing. He co-owns India’s Super Fight League (MMA) and Super Boxing League and is a promoter, sponsor, and owner of Khan Promotions and Pakistan’s Amir Khan Academy. He has taken part in a number of game and reality TV shows as a celebrity. On the seventeenth season of I’m a Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here! in 2017, Khan made an appearance.
