Georgia Shooting: Who Is The Suspect?

Four people were killed in a mass shooting in Georgia on Saturday, and the shooter was shot and killed by law enforcement.

Three males and one woman were killed early on Saturday in Hampton, Georgia, close to the Dogwood Lakes subdivision, according to the Henry County Sheriff’s Office.

The suspect, named by police as 40-year-old Hampton resident Andre Longmore, is suspected of shooting the victims about 10:45 on Saturday morning when the initial call was received, the sheriff’s office revealed at a news conference. The identities of the four victims are unknown.

According to Syntonnia Moore, a spokeswoman for the Henry County Sheriff’s Office, Longmore was later fatally shot by police in Atlanta’s Clayton County, according to the Associated Press.

A Henry County sheriff’s deputy and a Clayton County police officer were hurt during the gunfire exchange while trying to catch the perpetrator, according to the site. Their conditions have not changed.

When Longmore and authorities exchanged gunfire, Deputy U.S. Marshal Van Grady reportedly said: “He fired on law enforcement and they returned fire.” Grady continued, “The threat posed to the public by Mr. Longmore has been eliminated.”

At the news conference, sheriff Reginald B. Scandrett previously announced that there would be a $10,000 prize for “any information” that would result in Longmore’s capture.

PEOPLE’s Sunday request for more information was not immediately answered by the Henry County Sheriff’s Office.

“Call 911 if you see Mr. Longmore,” was the request. He is known to be armed and dangerous, so stay away from him, the sheriff advised at the time.

He later added, “… [I’ll] say this directly to you, Mr. Longmore. “We will find you wherever you are, in whatever hole you may be, and take you into jail. Period. Anyone with information should contact us because we will keep looking for this person until we find him.

The suspect was shown in pictures released by the Sheriff’s Office, along with the 2017 black GMC Acadia with the license plate DHF 756, which was not his own car.

According to NBC News, Hampton Police Chief James Turner has since referred to Saturday as “a sad day in Hampton” and said that the police department will “do everything in our power” to ensure that the offender is brought to justice.

The four adult victims’ names weren’t immediately made public by police so that the family “had time to be informed” and “could grieve in private before it becomes public,” they added.

Turner said Saturday that police had at least “four crime scenes that we’re actively investigating,” and that police are “still investigating” if the suspect was related to the victims. Police have not shared a motive for the shooting.
