GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Tyrese Da’jon Jones, 24, was arrested last night and charged with six felonies after his roommate called 911 and said he was high on “beans” and waving a gun around.

A Gainesville Police Department officer responded to a residence in the Lamplighter mobile home park at about 9:20 p.m. last night after a man said his roommate was high on “beans” and waving a handgun with an extended magazine around.

While the officer was investigating the incident, Jones asked to use the bathroom, and as an officer escorted him to the bathroom, he reportedly reached for a bag on the couch, apparently trying to adjust its position.

A search of Jones’ person reportedly produced about 2.2 grams of MDMA, which Jones reportedly said was “beans” or Ecstasy; he said the drugs were for personal use. Jones asked the officer to collect his bag from the couch; a Glock magazine with six rounds of 9mm ammunition was reportedly in plain view in the bag, and a search of the bag reportedly produced 27.3 grams of marijuana, a scale, and multiple plastic bags. Another round of ammunition was reportedly found under the couch.

Post Miranda, Jones reportedly admitted that the magazine was his but said he had sold the firearm it belonged to; he said he hadn’t included the standard magazine because he sold the firearm with an extended magazine. Jones said he takes “beans” recreationally and does not sell marijuana. He reportedly said he has a scale so he won’t get “ripped off” but had no explanation for the baggies.

At the request of Jones’ roommate, officers conducted a further search of the residence and found a loaded Glock 17 with an extended magazine containing 27 rounds and one round in the chamber behind the washing machine. The gun was reported stolen in Alachua County.

Jones’ roommate and a witness reportedly told officers that Jones sells marijuana from the residence.

Jones, a convicted felon, has been charged with grand theft of a firearm, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, possession of marijuana with intent to sell, possession of a controlled substance, and maintaining a drug dwelling.

Jones is also facing a sworn complaint for grand theft for allegedly taking over $1,300 from a cash register at XMart on SW 13th Street on March 26.

Jones has been in Alachua County for five months; he has felony convictions and active warrants in other states. Judge Mark Moseley set bail at $70,000.

Articles about arrests are based on reports from law enforcement agencies. The charges listed are taken from the arrest report and/or court records and are only accusations. All suspects are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
