Trevor Francis, 69, Death Cause
The footballing world honoured Trevor Francis, the previous most expensive player in British history, as he passed away on Monday at the age of 69.
When Nottingham Forest came calling in 1979, Francis created history by becoming the first British player to earn £1 million, and two European Cup victories followed him to the City Ground.
As news of Francis’ untimely death spread in Spain, football legends and the 69-year-old’s pals paid tribute to him.
He suffered a heart attack on Monday morning at home in Marbella, according to a statement released on behalf of the Francis family.
Francis, who first worked as a player-manager before transitioning into management, also had a base in Solihull.
The family’s statement read: “This has come as a big shock to everyone.
There were many memorable experiences that Francis experienced over his illustrious career, as he previously discussed with Ian Ladyman of Mail Sport in 2019.
