Why Is Katy Tur Leaving MSNBC? Is She Returning Back? What Happened? – Katharine Bear Tur is an American author and broadcast journalist working as a correspondent for NBC News. Tur is an anchor for MSNBC Live and has reported for the NBC news platforms Early Today, Today, NBC Nightly News, Meet the Press, WNBC-TV, MSNBC, and The Weather Channel.

In 2009, Tur joined NBC’s local station in New York City, WNBC-TV, and then rose to the flagship NBC News at the national network level. That year she was awarded AP’s Best Spot News Award for coverage of the March 2008 crane collapse on the Upper East Side of Manhattan. While at NBC News, she covered the death of Cory Monteith, a motorcycle attack on an SUV, and the search for Malaysia Airlines Flight.

Tur was the NBC News and MSNBC’s embedded reporter for the Donald Trump presidential campaign. As a reporter for NBC, Tur was assigned the task of informing the Trump campaign about the Access Hollywood tape featuring Trump’s conversation with Billy Bush about women that the network had in possession.

On several occasions during his campaign rallies, Trump singled out Tur in his criticism of the press. At an event in Florida, Tur was booed by Trump supporters and, according to CNN anchor Wolf Blitzer, verbally harassed. According to Trump campaign manager Kellyanne Conway, “[Trump] didn’t mean it in any malicious way”, and he did not want anyone to attack or harass her.

Katherine Bear Tur is working with NBC News as an anchor for MSNBC Live. She is a professional author and broadcast journalist reporting for the NBC platforms.

She started her career as a journalist in 2005, whereas by 2009, she signed to NBC. Since then, she has not stopped but has grown professionally.

Why Is Katy Tur Leaving MSNBC?

MSNBC turned 25 on July 15, 2021. MSNBC marked its 25th anniversary dedicated and paying tribute to the employee. The employees also expressed their gratitude.

Katy Tur, on that occasion, expressed to serve the channel for 25 more years in the future. But, the news is on air about her leaving MSNBC. 

 

 

The journalist has availed of maternity leave from MSNBC. There is nothing she had mentioned about leaving the channel forever or leaving for good. 

She is born to her journalist parents Zoey Tur and Marika Gerrard. She shared that her mother after, giving birth to her, returned to work immediately. 

She is proud of her mother for her dedication to her work and being resilient. At the same time, she is sad because she thinks it’s insane not to have a mother around for kids.

Though maternity leave is legal and a compulsion, many private sectors tend to overlook the benefit. Not to lose the job, many women tend to leave the toddler home.

The 37-year-old journalist announced her pregnancy and mentioned all Americans should have access to such programs as maternity leaves. 

Is The Journalist Returning?

So far, as per Katy Tur’s announcement of her maternity leave, she will be on leaves. She has exclaimed that she is lucky to have four months of paid leave.

Her message reads, “I am two weeks out from my due date. And once this baby comes, because of the generosity of Comcast, I get 4 months of paid leave to be with my baby.

I am one of the very lucky ones in this country.” It is indeed a clear message that she is returning. She is a receiver of the 2017 Walter Cronkite Award for Excellence in Journalism.

For three years till 2009, Katy was in a relationship with MSNBC political commentator and sportscaster Keith Olbermann. However, on October 27, 2017, she married Tony Dokoupil.

She had made an announcement of her pregnancy on December 13, 2018. The broadcaster also has two stepchildren from her husband’s former relationship.

She gave birth to their first child on April 13, 2021. And the second child was born on May 13, 2021.
