MP George Christensen’s wife April Asuncion is a lovely lady from the Philippines. They married in a civil ceremony in Te Kowai north of Mackay at a ceremony at his parents’ house in 2019.
The wedding was preponed due to George’s mother Margaret’s illness and she died from cancer just days after the couple exchanged their vows.
The couple met first time while the MP was traveling to the Philippines in 2017 through their mutual friends while he was enjoying his holiday there.
After dating for some time 18 months to be exact, he proposed to her through a phone.

As per the sources, April is an employee at Ponytails and her husband was a regular at the Ponytails bar. It is an entertainment venue in Angeles City where the manager of the club said he was a big spender.
Later, George denied the rumors and termed the stories defamatory and false.

George then started to think about his retirement from federal politics soon after the birth of his first child and to spend more time with his family.
He said he wanted to spend a lot of time with his family and added politics is not that conducive to healthy family life.

George was born in Mackay on 30 June 1978 to third-generation cane farmers. His ancestors emigrated from Denmark in 1901 and he was the eldest son to two disability pensioners.
His parent’s information is limited but they attended their son’s wedding before his mother passed away. She was battling liver cancer and succumbed to the disease. Furthermore, she had other illnesses such as epilepsy and cerebral palsy which did not hamper her life as much cancer did.
George named his daughter after his mom, Margaret. Her condition continued to worsen and the couple hurried their wedding so his mother could see him tie the knot.
The very next day, his mother asked to be hospitalized and she passed away.
