On Sunday morning, December 12, 2021, Frank Callanan passed away at his home in Fitzwilliam Square. According to his medical reports, he suffered from some health complications and immediately felt like a medical emergency call.
Callanan’s death came out after his wife, Bridget, announced it via social media. Former Attorney General Michael McDowell (Frank’s close colleague) was shocked and sad to hear of his demise, which was “a terrible loss to the Irish judiciary.”

Mr. Callanan was described as an “icon” of the Irish Bar by Bar Council chairperson Maura McNally. She offered her sympathies to his family on behalf of the Bar.
Meanwhile, Eilis Barry, CEO of the Free Legal Advice Centres, said Frank’s passing was a “great loss to the Bar and to the political, social, and cultural world.” “He exemplified the very finest of the Bar,” he added.

“Mr. Callanan always followed the cab rank norm and never refused anyone. As a result, he took on the most challenging cases on behalf of clients who would not have been represented otherwise “Mr. Barry, please.
Ultimately, Callanan is survived by his wife, Bridget; sisters Claire, Jean, and Sara; and brothers Paul and Richard. His family held a memorial service to say the last goodbye to him at Fitzwilliam Square.

Mr. Callanan received his bachelor’s degree from the University of Dublin (UCD) and attended the King’s Hotel and the European Academy in Bruges. He was an auditor for the UCD Literature and History Association and authored the organization’s history.
