Following the accident, the driver, Anna Gallagher, 28, and her mother, Margaret Doherty, 63, died on the spot.
At that time, Mathew Broderick was on holiday with actress Jennifer Grey; they were reportedly secretly dating during the shooting of Ferris Bueller’s Day off. However, the accident exposed their relationship publicly in the media.
Matthew Broderick’s Ireland Car Accident & Health Condition
On 5 August 1987, Matthew Broderick faced a fatal car accident in Northern Ireland while driving BMW 316 that was rented. As a result, he had a ruptured lung, a shattered leg, and a concussion.

During the interrogation, Broderick informed investigators that he has no recollection of the crash, and the first thing Matthew remembers is waking up in the hospital with a strange feeling in his leg.
He was charged with causing death by dangerous driving, which has a possible jail term of five years; however, he was found guilty of reckless driving and fined £100 (US$ 175).
Regarding his present health condition, Broderick is now healthy and doing well. He was last seen in the 2020 comedy-drama Lazy Susan as Doug.
