Press release from University of Florida Police Department

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – The University of Florida Police Department would like to make you aware of recent catalytic converter thefts that were reported in multiple garages (Garage 5 and Garage 14) between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. Both catalytic converter thefts involved Honda Element vehicles. The victims made delayed reports to UFPD from when the crimes had occurred.

UFPD has increased patrols of all parking areas on campus and is actively investigating these thefts. If you believe you have been a victim of a catalytic converter theft or if you have any information that may be helpful in these investigations, please contact UFPD at (352) 392-1111 or submit information through the Silent Witness link at or through the GatorSafe app.

While it is difficult to prevent the theft of catalytic converters, there are steps you can take to protect your property. We recommend anti-theft devices such as alarm systems, theft prevention devices, or owner-applied numbers.

If you see something, say something – and say something as soon as it is safe to do so.
