Spelling wed Charlie Shanian, an actor and writer, on July 3, 2004. The Lifetime TV movie Mind Over Murder was being filmed in Ottawa in July 2005 when Spelling met actor Dean McDermott, who was then wed to actress Mary Jo Eustace.
