The murder of a Maryland mother, who was found “brutally” slain along a nature trail, could be the work of a serial killer, authorities have suggested.
The gruesome nature of Rachel Hannah Morin’s killing earlier this month is what led investigators to the conclusion, according to Harford County Sheriff Jeff Gahler.
“The violence associated with Rachel’s case shows he has absolutely no care, no regard for human life,” Gahler told Fox News. “I believe he will continue to do it until he’s captured. He may be a serial killer.”

How did Rachel Morin die?
Morin’s remains were found on Aug. 6 along the Ma and Pa Trail in the town of Bel Air. She’d vanished around 6 p.m. a day earlier prior to going to exercise on the nature trail where her body was later discovered. Morin’s boyfriend reported her missing. Authorities have remained mum on specific details regarding her murder, including the extent of her injuries.

Authorities, however, have speculated the mother of five’s killing was a possible random attack. Gahler previously described her killer as a “heinous coward.”
“Serial killers all start somewhere,” Gahler added. “What he did in Los Angeles was certainly, I believe, in that direction. I believe it was his intention to inflict more serious physical harm.”

Detectives have also since struggled to identify a suspect in the grisly crime. DNA evidence found near Morin’s body, however, was linked to an unknown suspect wanted for a violent Los Angeles home invasion, which included the assault of a young girl. In home surveillance footage of the attack, which authorities released earlier this month, the man in question can be seen from behind walking out of the property shirtless.
Law enforcement described Morin’s suspected killer as being a Hispanic man between the age of 20 and 30, who has dark hair and a muscular build. He’s estimated to stand at 5-foot-9 and weigh 160 pounds.
“We don’t know who he is yet,” Gahler said. “He could still be laying his head here in our county, or he could have fled anywhere in the country or even the world.”

The Los Angeles Police Department and the FBI are also investigating the case alongside local authorities.
Loved ones held a memorial for Morin in Baltimore on Sunday, per Fox News. Rachel Morin’s mother said the pain in the aftermath of her daughter’s killing has been “unbearable.”
“I know the God that we believe in and the God that Rachel believes in was there holding her and comforting her, and he never left her,” Patty Morin said.
