Jonathan Kanter Biography – Jonathan Kanter Wiki

Jonathan Kanter is an American antitrust lawyer and Assistant Attorney General for the Antitrust Division of the U.S. Department of Justice. President Biden nominated him to become the top antitrust enforcement official at the Justice Department in July 2021. He was confirmed as Assistant Attorney General for the Antitrust Division on November 16, 2021.

Kanter began his career as an attorney at the Federal Trade Commission, where he was involved in investigating and challenging anticompetitive mergers.

He went on to private practice and worked for a number of prominent law firms. From 2000 to 2007, Kanter was an associate at Fried, Frank, Harris, Shriver & Jacobson, according to his LinkedIn biography. He went on to become a partner at Cadwalader, Wickersham & Taft.

In 2016 Kanter joined Paul, Weiss, Rifkind, Wharton & Garrison LLP as a partner in its Antitrust Group, resident in Washington, D.C. He resigned from his position with Paul, Weiss, Rifkind, Wharton and Garrison, LLP in September 2020 to set up his own antitrust boutique in Washington, D.C.

In 2020, he started his own firm, The Kanter Law Group, an advocacy-focused antitrust firm where he continued to advocate on behalf of clients in favor of vigorous enforcement of antitrust laws against dominant firms. Clients at the Kanter Law Group included the Coalition for App Fairness, Spotify USA Inc., Uber Technologies Inc., Nike Inc. and General Motors Co.

Kanter received a B.A. cum laude from the SUNY Albany and a J.D. from the Washington University School of Law.
