A CHUCKLESOME man’s Halloween decoration was ordered by his community’s homeowner’s association to take down the scarecrow/pumpkin he put up for all his neighbors to see.

Homeowner Mike O’Neill insists his family gets “a lot of chuckles” out of the yearly décor, but he’s recently been told to change up his display, featuring a scarecrow/pumpkin “mooning” passersby.

O’Neill, who lives in the Grogan’s Bluff neighborhood of North Fulton County, Georgia, thinks he’s responded to his HOA’s request in the perfect way – with a censored sign.

The display doesn’t appear to be scary at all, but O’Neill has been told it is “offensive” due to the scarecrow/pumpkin having its pants slightly pulled down over its butt, featuring two pumpkins and straw inside a pair of jeans.

The scarecrow pumpkin’s back is turned to the street and comically looking over its shoulder.

So when O’Neill was asked to take down his decor, he chose to put up a sign instead, covering the scarecrow/pumpkin’s behind, reading: “Censored by GBHOA.”

O’Neill told WSBTV, “So we said we’ll make it less offensive.

“And that’s when we put the sign up saying it’s been censored.”

O’Neill claims he’s been able to put up his scarecrow/pumpkin on and off over the past 10 years.

He insists people passing by offer “great feedback.”

“People laughed. Lots of picture taking. People stopped their cars,” he added.

It wasn’t until this week that O’Neill received an email from an HOA board member instructing him to take off the decoration.

The email reportedly stated: “We have had more new neighbors with small children move in… and they are finding it offensive.”

The Grogan’s Bluff website describes the neighborhood as: “Few Atlanta neighborhoods offer the beauty, convenience, safety, quality of life and value that Grogan’s Bluff does.

“Our 156 custom homes are situated among towering trees and rolling hills that seamlessly connect to the beauty of the Chattahoochee River.

“Our residents, a mix of families, couples and singles, enjoy the opportunity for both a vibrant social calendar or a tranquil, private life.”

Meanwhile, in regard to restrictions, the HOA states on its website: “Remember that any and all changes to your yard or home on the street-facing or sides must be approved by the architectural controls committee.

“Requests can be submitted for approval using the Home Modification Action Request form.”

Despite what O’Neill was instructed to do, he hopes his response will change the HOA board members’ thoughts.

He hopes everyone can be “a bit more understanding. And have a little bit more sense of humor.”

O’Neill, who hasn’t decided whether he will remove the display or change the scarecrow/pumpkin’s position, insists his display was put up “purely to break up the monotony of life a little bit and have a little bit of fun.

He continued: “This is the time of year where you have a little bit of fun.”
