WARSAW is facing a bomb alert after a man climbed up a historic monument and reportedly threatened to blow himself up.
Cops have cordoned off Pilsudski Square in the centre of the city as they try to contain the threat.
Footage from the scene shows the unknown man wearing a backpack and holding an unidentified object in his hand as he stands on top of Smolensk monument.
“No entrance, there is a bomb,” a police officer said at the scene.
Eye-witnesses say there are anti-terrorist officers and a police negotiator involved.

The streets all around have been closed, according to local sources.
A police spokesperson confirmed that a man had climbed onto the monument and told people not to go near it under any circumstances.
The black granite monument commemorates the victims of an air disaster in 2010 that killed 96 people, including President Lech Kaczynski and his wife Maria.
It comes just a day before high-stakes elections take place in Poland.
