INDIANA state police has reportedly begun to investigate an alleged leak of crime scene evidence now circulating social media, connected to the brutal Delphi murders nearly seven years ago.
Libby German, 14, and her best friend Abby Williams, 13 were found dead along an abandoned railroad in Delphi, Illinois in February 2017.
Richard Allen, 50, was arrested in late October 2022 over their deaths.
His trial — set to start in January 2024 — could face some derailment over a recent alleged evidence leak, reportedly including photos from the crime scene.
Allen County Special Judge Fran Gull issued a hearing last week for October 19 to discuss a later hearing an “other matters,” according to Fox 59.
The outlet predicted that those matters likely include the crime scene evidence circulating on social media.
The leak is speculated to have stemmed from Allen’s legal team.
The alleged connection to the defense was reportedly found by The Murder Sheet podcast, which had been approached by a social media source with knowledge of Allen’s lawyers’ strategy.
Podcasters Kevin Greenlee and Áine Cain claimed to Fox59 that the source alleged the defense acquired certain evidence that was “not published.”

Ultimately, the podcasters reportedly confirmed the identities of people associated with the leak, including one person who allegedly was a former professional associate of one of Allen’s attorneys — Andrew Baldwin.
Fox 59 has also reportedly confirmed a connection with the defense team, through a review of Facebook messages.
The messages were sent between two people, one man from Indiana who allegedly received information from Baldwin’s former associate and a man from Texas who went on to share it.
During the exchange, the Indiana man reportedly wrote, “defense just got girls phone records.”
He also reportedly wrote, “they are saying that there is stuff good for Rick.”
In another exchange, the Texas man reportedly wrote that he was traveling to Franklin, Indiana and noted he wanted a “fair fight” for the defense.
He reportedly also criticized the prosecution in the same message.
Additionally, the messages also allegedly discussed “protection” and “cover their tracks,” according to Fox 59.
The Murder Sheet podcasters reportedly informed their source to contact the Indiana State Police with their information.
Investigators with the department reportedly launched an investigation into the leak early last week.
Since then, at least one social media follower involved in the leak has reportedly died, according to Fox 59.
