Joe Biden’s campaign team joined Donald Trump’s social media platform Truth Social on Monday, spending the first 12 hours gleefully trolling Trump.

‘Well. Let’s see how this goes. Converts welcome!’ the first post read.

The account has been set up to pique the interest of the meme-literate, internet-savvy, largely pro-Trump crowds on the platform.

The profile image was Biden with red laser eyes – an image known as ‘Dark Brandon.’

The name came from a meme that originally started out as a right-wing slogan, ‘Let’s Go Brandon’ – coded to stand in for ‘F*** Joe Biden.’ It has now become an inside joke for Biden’s supporters.

The account, @BidenHQ, declares: ‘Just the facts, Jack. A project of Biden-Harris 2024.’

The page is captioned ‘Malarkey Ends Here’ – a reference to Biden’s signature dismissal of nonsense, and his ‘No Malarkey Tour’ on the 2020 campaign trail.

Throughout Monday, the account tweeted clips of Trump being mocked or criticized by his fellow Republicans.

Their second post featured a video of Florida Governor Ron DeSantis, once Trump’s main competition for the 2024 Republican nomination, saying: ‘[Donald Trump] owes it to you to defend his record where they added 7.8 trillion to the debt. That set the stage for the inflation that we have now.’

Nikki Haley, a presidential rival rapidly rising in the polls, was shown commending ‘President Biden for his international leadership: “Give credit where credit is due.”‘

The team posted a video of John Kelly, a retired four-star general whose son was killed fighting in Afghanistan, and who was horrified by some of Trump’s behavior while in the White House.

‘Trump’s former Chief of Staff John Kelly confirms that Trump called American service members ‘suckers’ and ‘losers,’ refused to visit their graves, and that he didn’t want to be seen with amputee veterans because “it doesn’t look good for me.”‘

Another post highlighted Trump’s praise last week of the Iranian-backed terrorist group Hezbollah, and the widespread condemnation that Trump’s remarks received – including from presidential candidate and South Carolina senator Tim Scott.

‘Tim Scott, asked about Trump praising Hezbollah as ‘smart’: Terrible. Those comments are not helpful. They are heading in the wrong direction.’

Rob Flaherty, Biden’s deputy campaign manager, said on X that venturing onto Truth Social was pure amusement.

‘A thing about campaigns is sometimes you just do things for the lolz,’ he said.

Steven Cheung, the Trump campaign’s spokesperson, said: ‘[Biden’s] continuation of spreading misinformation to gaslight the American people in order to distract from his disastrous record won’t work, and they’ll be ratioed to oblivion.’
