FIVE hundred people are feared dead following an Israeli airstrike on a hospital in Gaza, Hamas has claimed.
Hundreds of people are understood to have been seeking shelter at the al-Ahli Hospital in the war-torn area.
Unverified pictures have emerged on social media showing a large fire at the hospital, with broken glass strewn across the floor and body parts scattered inside.
A spokesman for the Hamas-run health ministry said: “Two hundred to 300 displaced people killed in occupation (Israeli) strikes on the yard.”
“Hundreds of victims are still under the rubble.
“The hospital was housing hundreds of sick and wounded, and people forcibly displaced from their homes.”

The Israeli military did not immediately comment on the hospital bombing when contacted by the Associated Foreign Press.
Around 3,000 people are thought to have been killed in Israeli air strikes across the Gaza Strip since the war erupted on October 7.
More than 1,400 people in Israel have been killed, the majority gunned down by Hamas militants who crossed from Gaza and attacked border communities.
It comes as US President Joe Biden is set to fly into Israel with a powerful arsenal close at hand as the war against Hamas deepens.
The high-stakes visit aims to show support for Israel after Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu vowed to “exterminate the bloody monsters” who unleashed hell on his country.
On Tuesday, US Secretary of State Antony Blinken announced that Biden will “hear from Israel what it needs to defend its people”.
Blinken added that the President will learn how Israel will operate in a way that minimises civilian casualties and enables humanitarian assistance in Gaza without benefiting Hamas.
Meanwhile, the American military is increasing its firepower in the region, looking to prevent Iran and other Iran-backed groups from getting involved in the conflict.
