HORRIFYING Ring security camera footage has captured the moment a blaze erupted at a neighboring home, resulting in the deaths of three young children.

In the Plum Orchard neighborhood on the eastern side of New Orleans, Louisiana, a vicious blaze erupted at a residence on Wednesday during the early morning hours, resulting in a two-alarm house fire.

Emergency responders quickly rushed to the scene, but the blaze resulted in the tragic deaths of three children aged eight, three, and five, per local news outlet NOLA.

The New Orleans Police Department later announced that the investigation would proceed as a triple-homicide case, as they suspect an arsonist to be responsible.

Ring security doorbell footage later obtained by nearby CBS affiliate WWL-TV from the home across the street showed the blaze began as a man appeared to swiftly exit out of the front door of the burning structure and leave the area.

Police also said they received reports that the childrens’ father, who was later identified by neighbors and family members as Joseph Washington, 29, allegedly threatened to burn the home down not long before the blaze erupted.

It was later noted that the mother called 911 before the fire started at around midnight before New Orleans Fire Department personnel were dispatched.

Resident Troy McDonnell, the kids’ grandfather, has since come forward to issue a stark threat to the suspect after the shocking scene.

“If I catch him I’m gonna kill him,” McDonell told NOLA of his feelings toward his son.

The grandfather accused Washington of starting the fire while the mother of his grandchildren was away at work.

A family member told the publication that the mother was aware of the situation and was admitted to a hospital on suicide watch Wednesday morning.

McDonnell pleaded to Washington to turn himself in for his alleged involvement in the crime.

The burned residence was a Habitat for Humanity home owned by Washington, per city and court records obtained by NOLA.

Washington and the childrens’ mother married in 2014, and in 2016, at least two convictions of domestic abuse were brought up against the 29-year-old.

The couple split in 2019, and the mother’s divorce filings noted a long history of domestic violence from Washington, claiming the father-of-three would choke, hit, and attack her while she was holding the children.

The court documents also noted a chilling instance in 2018 where Washington allegedly tricked the mother into meeting up with him.

While there, he supposedly threatened to kill her and the three children.

She filed a restraining order against her former husband the same year.

After arriving at the blaze, firefighters reported that they found two children near the living room of the home on the floor, who were rushed to the hospital and later confirmed dead.

The third child was pronounced dead at the scene after being found in the center of the home.

It was later confirmed on Wednesday afternoon by the Gretna Police Department that Washington was apprehended by officers and is now in custody, per NBC affiliate WDSU.

Cops said that Washington was caught on Interstate 610 and jumped out of his motor vehicle onto the ground after plunging it into the Mississippi River.

He was transported to a nearby hospital for the injuries he sustained.

The U.S. Sun continues to monitor the developing investigation.
