Frank DeLeon Jr. is a Texas man who was formerly in a relationship with a girl named Diamond Alvarez.
On Tuesday, October 17, 2023, he appeared in court, where an incident occurred between him and Alvarez’s families.
What was Frank DeLeon Jr accused of?
DeLeon was accused of fatally shooting his ex-girlfriend, 16-year-old Alvarez, in the back 22 times.
Click2Houston reported that per police, the killing took place on January 11, 2022, as Alvarez was walking her family’s dog.
DeLeon was arrested six days later on January 17 and was charged with murder.
The next day, he was released after posting a $250,000 bond, per the outlet.
On Tuesday, October 17, 2023, DeLeon pleaded guilty to the deadly crime in a Houston, Texas courtroom in exchange for a 45-year prison sentence, per Fox 26 Houston.
Prosecutors said he waived his right to appeal as part of the plea deal and that he will be eligible for parole after serving about 22.5 years, which is half of his sentence.Â

According to the outlet, attorneys said DeLeon’s final sentencing will take place on Thursday, October 19, 2023.
What happened in the courthouse?
As Fox 26 Houston reported, DeLeon was scheduled to be in court on Monday, October 16, 2023, but failed to make an appearance.
His defense attorney told the court that he was in an accident while on his way to the courthouse.
After a judge revoked his bond and issued a warrant for his arrest, he later surrendered and was taken into police custody, per the outlet.
While in court on October 17, Alvarez’s mother, Anna Machado, gave an impact statement in which she referred to as DeLeon “a monster.”
As the publication reported, an altercation broke out between Alvarez’s family and DeLeon’s family after one of Alvarez’s family members allegedly lunged at DeLeon, who was sitting in the courtroom with his attorneys.
The outlet continued: “Alvarez’s mother and DeLeon’s mother were also seen physically going after each other. Security had to intervene and separate the two families.”
The New York Post reported that Alvarez’s uncle was “detained and taken away in handcuffs,” though it is unclear if any charges have been filed in connection with the incident.
Per the outlet, Machado later apologized outside the courtroom, saying: “That was wrong of me, that was wrong of us, because we are not monsters.
“But it’s so much hate, because I want my daughter back, and what he did is horrible, seeing my daughter there and looking at him, knowing he did that, and him laughing at my face, it was very wrong and I’m sorry for that.”
