A CALIFORNIA woman has blasted Airbnb for tacking on ridiculously high fees to its bookings.
Several properties she tried to book looked like affordable options until she was hit with extra fees, and the woman wasn’t happy about it.
The San Diego woman (@deetsontheeats) has shared the experience on TikTok.
“If you are Airbnb, I’m gonna tell you in real time why no one wants to book with you anymore,” the woman said, looking straight into the camera.
She shared a screenshot showing a sample Airbnb booking of a tiny home in Joshua Tree, California in the video.
The three-bedroom tiny home featured a large deck with a privacy fence and hot tub.
Sitting on a brown leather couch, she took viewers along as she shopped on the booking platform for a place to stay.
“We’re going for two nights – $73 a night, perfect,” she commented, after finding an affordable rental within her budget.
However, her excitement was quickly diminished.
She thought the rental should only cost her around $150 for the two-night stay.
However, it was going to cost upwards of $275 after taxes and fees.
“That is an additional $125. That is more than we would be spending on one night there,” she said, adding, “That just seems absurd.
So she kept searching.
The next property she liked was called Stargazing Oasis.
It had two queen beds, and an in-ground pool and hot tub.
It also offered sprawling mountain views.

It was listed by a superhost for $159 per night.
“Not too bad,” she commented.
However, it was going to be $563 after taxes and fees.
“Let’s do some quick math,” she said. “That’s $245 in fees.”
“This is why nobody wants to book with you anymore,” she said.
Over 1,100 people have commented on the post..

Another person wrote: “The heyday of AirBnB is over. Plus, who wants to clean on their vacation.”
“I’m over the cheap furniture, mattresses and sheets. So comfortable,” someone else wrote.
Another person said: “Unless I’m with a large group like 10+ it doesn’t make sense anymore.”
The U.S. Sun has reached out to Airbnb for comment.
A spokesman for Airbnb told The U.S. Sun on Monday that they have recently made a number of new updates.
“In 2022, we rolled out total price display globally, which makes fees even more transparent and shows all fees – including cleaning fees – before taxes in search results, as well as on the map, filter and listing page,” Ruthie Wabula, a spokesman for Airbnb corporate communications, said in a statement.
“Guests can still view a full price breakdown of Airbnb’s service fee, discounts, and taxes before booking.”
She also said: “A few weeks ago, we announced a number of fall updates including lower cleaning fees and better search and filters.
“Since we launched total price display, 260,882 listings lowered or removed cleaning fees. Now, nearly 3 million listings don’t charge a cleaning fee.”
