A GRANDMOTHER has revealed she saw her life ‘flash’ in front of her eyes as she was getting attacked by a great white shark.

On October 2, a grandmother from Australia needed 200 stitches after her day at the beach ended with a terrifying shark attack.

Pam Cook was in the water with her swimming group, the Beachport Sea Urchins and Slugs when she suddenly felt something grab her ankle.

She looked down and saw a great white shark with its jaws around her ankle.

“I started yelling ‘shark, shark!’ and then it left and I was still composing myself [then] it came from underneath and attacked my left thigh,” she told The Advertiser.

She explained to the publication that she could feel the beast chewing on her thigh and admitted: “My life flashed before my eyes”.

Despite the attack, she said that she didn’t feel any pain.

The brave grandmother managed to push the shark away using her hand, which ended up getting injured in the process.

“I didn’t have any pain, I didn’t feel it as it was happening,” Cook explained.

Despite all of her injuries, she was able to swim to a ladder onto a jetty and hoist herself up before collapsing.

People in the area covered her with blankets and towels, while a maintenance worker applied a tourniquet on her leg to stop the bleeding.

At the time, Cook remembered feeling cold but safe.

The grandmother was in surgery for five-and-a-half hours for the bites on her thigh, arms, and hands at MT Gambier Hospital.

Despite her terrifying experience, Cook still plans to rejoin her swimming club once she fully recovers.

“It’s just a wonderful group and I can’t imagine not being part of that group so I’m definitely going back in the water.”
