Steph McGovern addressed Holly Willoughby’s departure from This Morning as she hinted at possibly presenting the ITV show.

The Channel 4 presenter praised Holly as she spoke on the mum of three’s decision to leave the daytime show.

Speaking at the Virgin Atlantic Attitude Awards in London’s Roundhouse on October 12, Steph, 41, the Packed Lunch presenter touched on the ITV host’s longstanding television career.

Of Holly’s exit, she told Mail Online: “I don’t know her – I know she’s a fantastic broadcaster, so I wish her well. I don’t think I’ve actually even met her before.”

When asked if she would consider taking a hosting job on This Morning, Steph added: “I’m very happy at Channel 4, but never say never.”

Her comments came days before it was announced that Steph’s Packed Lunch has been axed after just three years.

The popular Channel 4 lunchtime show, Steph’s Packed Lunch, first launched back in 2020 as host Steph broadcast from her home during lockdown.

Her Channel 4 show will come to an end in December and it has since been rumoured that Steph is “in the running” for Holly’s This Morning job.

Channel 4 confirmed the news that Steph’s Packed Lunch will not return.

A statement read: “With audience habits changing quicker than ever, we have to make difficult decisions about which programmes to invest in to best drive our digital-first strategy and we have decided not to recommission Steph’s Packed Lunch when its existing production contract ends in December 2023.

“We remain as committed as ever to our mission to help level up the TV industry outside London and to our 50% origination out-of-London target.

“We will be reinvesting the budget previously committed to Steph’s Packed Lunch into other nations and regions productions.”

Holly announced she was stepping down from her role on This Morning after 14 years earlier this month.

Steph’s Packed Lunch airs weekdays on Channel 4 at 12pm.
