A FORMER resident at an apartment complex that has seen several eviction notices issued in the past few months claims she owes over $8,000 despite supposedly paying her rent on time.
Joy Thomas, a frustrated former tenant staying at Windsor Apartments in Rock Hill, South Carolina, about 70 miles north of Columbia, claimed she was given several eviction notices over “unexplained” issues.
Thomas isn’t the only one either, as several other tenants echoed similar concerns to Charlotte, North Carolina, ABC affiliate WSOC in October.
Two specifically claimed that they were served notices requiring back rent when their bills were allegedly paid on time.
Thomas explained to the outlet that she was compelled to share her situation after seeing stories from others.
“I know how those people felt because I felt the same way,” Thomas noted.
“I was just shocked that the issue is still ongoing.”
The fuming Rock Hill native was allegedly given not one but several eviction notices with little reasoning as to why she was required to pay the complex thousands.
“For me, I received those same eviction notices for thousands of dollars that was unexplained that was due,” Thomas claimed.
The problems started for Thomas in March after she said an eviction notice was posted on her door with her address but a different tenant’s name, requiring payment of around $7,000.
One month later, another eviction notice was allegedly posted on Thomas’ door, this time with her name but an amount exceeding $8,000.

The tenant noted she had missed two rent payments, but the dollar amount listed as owed by the complex was allegedly far more than what her rent and incurred late fees would have called for.
Thomas said that the only other option given by the complex was for her to vacate the premises by a certain date, which the former resident said she did immediately.
“It forced me to leave,” she claimed.
“They say well, if you can leave by this certain date, we’ll forgive the $8,000-something that you owe.”
“I went and got a U-Haul truck immediately,” Thomas added.
Jasmine Milton, a current resident at Windsor Apartments, is seemingly facing a similar predicament.
Milton received an eviction notice that explained she owed $2,000, according to the document obtained by WSOC.
Although she claimed that she never missed a single rent payment during her renting period.
Thomas said she empathized with Milton.
“I hurt for them, because I know exactly how they feel, how they felt,” she told the outlet.
“Because I had to pack up a U-Haul with my kids with nowhere to go.”
Another four tenants have since reached out to the news station with similar complaints, and when reached for comment, the complex noted it won’t discuss specific tenant issues.
Even so, The U.S. Sun has contacted Windsor Apartments for an official comment regarding the tenants’ claims and more information on its eviction processes.
