A WOMAN has been arrested after allegedly fatally stabbing her own mother.
Bloody footprints were seen outside the woman’s El Monte, California home, alongside a child’s birthday decorations, after the horrific attack on Sunday.
Police found a woman in her 40s with multiple stab wounds at a home east of Los Angeles at around 5 pm, according to the local NBC affiliate.
She was declared dead at the scene.
The woman may have been decapitated, local ABC affiliate KABC reported, citing footage that appeared to show officials examining a head.
The suspect in the stabbing has been identified as Kimberly M. Gonzalez.
Police found Gonzalez, 25, hiding outside the home.
She was detained and placed under arrest and is currently being held on a $2 million bail.
A weapon was recovered from the murder site, however investigators have not specified exactly what they found.
Julio Perez, the brother of the dead woman, reportedly alleged that Gonzalez killed her mother, Jacqueline Perez.
Jacqueline was reportedly raising Gonzalez’s two children.
Julio described hearing a scream and seeing his 11-year-old nephew run outside for help, according to KABC.
He said that his nephew’s shirt was soaked with blood.
Neighbors told Telemundo 52 that the victim was celebrating her granddaughter’s birthday over the weekend.
It was not immediately clear what led to the stabbing or if Gonzalez has been charged.
However, friends of the suspect reportedly told KABC that Gonzalez struggled with drugs.
The Los Angeles Sheriff’s Office declined to provide any additional information when reached for comment.
