There was an argument between the group and the pet allegedly bit the mother on the leg, causing bruising.

The pensioner is said to have attempted to hit the victim with a dog lead during the row in Meyrick Park, Bournemouth, Dorset.

The police image shows an elderly man with long white hair in a red coat and light coloured trousers next to a dog.

Police have urged anyone who recognises the man in the image to come forward following the incident on August 28 at 10am.

Police community support investigator Craig Evans, of Bournemouth police, said: “We are now issuing an image of a man that we are keen to speak to.

“I would ask anyone who recognises him to please get in contact with Dorset Police as we are keen to establish the full circumstances of what happened.”

Anyone with information is asked to contact Dorset Police at www.dorset.police.uk or by calling 101, quoting occurrence number 55230136100.
