President Joe Biden said Wednesday that he’s not worried about new House Speaker Mike Johnson attempting to overturn the 2024 election because he was sure former President Donald Trump would fail to do so in 2020.

Biden was holding a Rose Garden press conference with Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese ahead of the state dinner when the news broke that the stalemate in the House had ended after 22 days, with Louisiana Rep. Mike Johnson being elected speaker.

Johnson was among Trump’s allies who pushed conspiracy theories about voting machines in the aftermath of the 2020 election and encouraged colleagues to bring a lawsuit contesting Biden’s win in four swing states.

But when the president was asked if he was concerned that Johnson would again refute the election results, Biden gave a resounding ‘no.’

‘Look, just like I was not worried that the last guy would be able to overturn the election,’ Biden said. ‘They had about 60 lawsuits and they went all the way to the Supreme Court and every time they lost. I understand the Constitution.’

It was the first time Biden addressed questions about the new speaker, who was the fourth Republican to be nominated by his party after the October 3 ousting of House Speaker Kevin McCarthy.

In his hands at the presser, Biden held a notecard that included the names, news outlets and photos of the two American and two Australian reporters who asked the two leaders questions.

While Biden downplayed any danger Johnson might pose, his 2024 presidential campaign immediately slammed the House GOP for unanimously selecting an ‘extreme MAGA’ figure.

‘MAGA Mike Johnson’s ascension to the speakership cements the extreme MAGA takeover of the House Republican Conference,’ said Biden-Harris spokesperson Ammar Moussa in a statement. ‘Now, Donald Trump has his loyal foot soldier to ban abortion nationwide, lead efforts to deny free and fair election results, gut Social Security and Medicare, and advance the extreme MAGA agenda at the expense of middle-class families.’

’22 days before Congress must act to avoid a government shutdown and while our allies overseas at war depend on our help, extreme MAGA House Republicans elevated a man to second-in-line to the presidency who still won’t admit President Biden won the 2020 election,’ Moussa continued. ‘The American people have rejected the extreme MAGA ideology at the ballot box because they understand what’s at stake. And so to every MAGA Republican who supported this choice.’

‘We’ll see you in November,’ he added.

Trump put his finger on the scale and had backed Johnson after saying Monday in New Hampshire that he planned to sit out of the speakership battle for awhile.

During an appearance at the New Hampshire statehouse to get his name on that state’s GOP primary ballot, Trump said only ‘Jesus Christ’ could easily win the speaker’s race.

But after Rep. Tom Emmer’s bid failed – one that Trump was wishy-washy about and later tanked – Johnson was able to corral all 220 Republican votes.

‘Congratulations to Rep. Mike Johnson. He will be a GREAT “SPEAKER.” MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!’ Trump wrote on Truth Social Wednesday.

Trump had initially backed Rep. Jim Jordan, another candidate whose bid failed.
