Lesley Matuszak Death Cause: Why Did She Kill Herself?

The investigation into Lesley Matuszak’s death cause revealed that she tragically killed herself.

According to Coroner Harwood, Lesley Matuszak was unresponsive at her West Moss Avenue home shortly before 12:45 p.m. on September 28, 2023. 

She was pronounced dead by the coroner’s office at 1:03 p.m. Harwood stated that he believed no foul play was suspected in her death, but further investigation was necessary to confirm the cause.

On October 10, it was revealed that Lesley Matuszak died by suicide, as determined by an autopsy conducted by the Peoria County Coroner’s Office. The autopsy revealed that she died of a single gunshot wound and “likely died instantly.”

This irrefutable determination came from collaborative investigative efforts with the Peoria Police Department CID.

The news of her death by suicide has deeply shaken the Peoria community, adding another layer of sorrow to the loss of an exceptional individual who had done so much for her community.
