COSTCO shoppers have discovered the secret behind the store’s speedy receipt checks.
A TikToker revealed the secret code used by store employees and the key figure they are looking out for when checking shoppers’ receipts.
TikTok page @Spoken_io features a number of videos helping people save money when shopping online and sharing other handy tips and tricks.
In one of the latest videos, the woman who runs the account shared Costco’s “secret.”
“Costco doesn’t want you to know this,” she told viewers.
In the video, she performed an interaction between a receipt checker and a shopper.
“Here’s my receipt, take your time, don’t worry,” she told the receipt checker.
Almost immediately the employee replies: “Looks good, here you go.”

Returning to the point of view of the shopper she said: “I literally bought so much food…there is no way you counted everything in 30 seconds.”
She then revealed that the receipt checkers look for the code from that day and if there are any items over $300.
If there are, it is Costco’s policy that there is a supervisor’s initial next to it, showing proof of purchase.
“I also checked the bottom of your cart to make sure we didn’t miss anything,” she said in the character of the employee.
She added that asking employees to check every single item on the receipt would be “a complete waste of time.”
When referring to “today’s code” that could mean the automatic date and time of purchase that is printed on, or another employee trick.
A fellow TikToker and former Costco employee that there is a “secret code” listed on receipts that helps staff validate purchases.
“There’s a secret code on the Costco receipts that changes every single day,” she said.
In an on-screen caption, the TikToker explained further that the code is changed per day in an effort to prevent a receipt from being used on a future date fraudulently.
