DeSantis vows to strip US funding after UN demanded Israeli ceasefire

Ron DeSantis says the United Nations is a ‘mess’ and a ‘total farce’ as he vowed to strip U.S. funding from the General Assembly if he becomes president.

The Florida Governor and 2024 hopeful told DailyMai.com that the UN has become a ‘den’ where ‘bad actors in the world get together and misbehave.’

UN General Secretary António Guterres claimed the Hamas terrorist attacks on Israel earlier this month were a response to the Jewish State’s actions, comments that have been widely viewed as anti-Israel.

Additionally, the UN General Assembly voted 120 to 14 on Friday to call for an immediate ceasefire in Israel. This action has also been viewed as anti-Semitic with critics claiming it is asking Israel to not defend itself from a Palestinian terrorist organization.

‘What an absolute disgrace,’ DeSantis said in an interview with DailyMail.com on Saturday. ‘And then to do a moral equivalency and to call for a ceasefire.’

The UN General Assembly voted on Friday to call for a ceasefire in Israel. 'So wait a minute, Israelis can be massacred and cold blood, butchered, raped, mutilated, burned – and yet somehow they're not supposed to respond? I mean, give me a break,' the governor said in an interview with DailyMail.com on Saturday

‘So wait a minute, Israelis can be massacred and cold blood, butchered, raped, mutilated, burned – and yet somehow they’re not supposed to respond?’ the Florida Governor lamented. ‘I mean, give me a break.’

‘That organization, the United Nations, is a mess. It is a total worthless disaster. Why we’re funding that I don’t know. But that was disgraceful.’

DeSantis spoke with DailyMail.com ahead of his remarks at a breakfast with Nevada Republicans at Treasure Island on the Las Vegas Strip.

After the breakfast, DeSantis is joining his other 2024 candidates at the Venetian to speak with the Republican Jewish Coalition for its annual leadership summit, which just happened to fall three weeks after Hamas launched one of the deadliest attacks on Jewish people.

The attacks led to the highest single-day death toll of Jewish people since the Holocaust.

DeSantis, who said the conflict in Israel is ‘personal’ in Florida, is using his state’s government funding to get flights of Floridians and Americans out of Israel in the midst of the ongoing deadly air strikes.

The organized, multi-front, surprise attack from Hamas earlier this month led to Israel launching a brutal counter offense in the Gaza Strip.

Republicans and pro-Israel advocates say that those calling for a ceasefire want to stop Israel from defending itself against terrorists. But pro-Palestine groups say

UN General Secretary Guterres had told the security council on Tuesday: ‘It is important to also recognize the attacks by Hamas did not happen in a vacuum.’

‘The Palestinian people have been subjected to 56 years of suffocating occupation,’ he added.

Asked if he would strip U.S. funding to the UN should he become president, DeSantis definitively said: ‘Yes. I mean, yeah, absolutely.’

‘I think that it is not an organization that’s produced good,’ he added. ‘It’s become kind of a den with a lot of the bad actors in the world that get together and misbehave. So how is that advancing U.S. interests?’

‘And the fact that they couldn’t even agree to condemn the Hamas attacks, and you had so many defections on that. You know, it shows you that this is an organization that – I don’t know that they ever had a good strong way forward – but clearly, now they’ve just lost any moral authority and it’s a total farce,’ the conservative governor concluded.
