Strictly’s Claudia Winkleman and Tess Daly were noticeably not dressed in costume for the BBC show’s Halloween special on Saturday night.

The entire cast from the judges to contestants dressed from head to toe in spooky costumes.

However, fans were quick to spot that both Claudia, 51, and Tess, 54 were in their usual remarkably glam dresses.

Back in 2014, Claudia’s daughter Matilda was involved in a tragic accident resulting in the hosts not participating in the costume dress-up ever since.

Matilda, who was eight at the time, suffered severe burns after her costume caught fire.

Claudia’s daughter was trick or treating when she brushed past a candle which caught her witch’s costume.

At the time of the accident, Claudia temporarily stepped down from hosting the BBC show.

The accident led her to become a dedicated campaigner for the safety and regulations around the materials used in children’s fancy dress costumes.

In an interview with the BBC’s Watchdog programme in 2015: “I don’t like Halloween because three years ago it turned out our screams were real”.

She recalled that her daughter “went up” in flames, adding: “It is the only way I can describe it – it was a spark, and she screamed out for me.

“It was like those horrific birthday candles that you blow out and they come back. It was really fast. It was definitely life-changing for me.

“I was talking to somebody and then I heard her shout and she was on fire. It feels like she was on fire for hours, but the surgeon said it was probably just seconds.”

The mum of three shares Matilda with her husband of 23 years Chris Thykier. The couple also have sons Jake, 19 and Arthur 11.
