A former Saturday Night Live comedy writer has been slammed after he appeared to mock Matthew Perry’s death on social media.

Kevnin Brennan, who used to work for SNL, wrote “DROWNED IN A HOT TUB. HAHAHAHA” on X. It came as he shared news of the popular Friends star’s death aged 54.

Brennan later appeared to not just stand by his post but doubled down when quizzed. After being criticised for mocking the 54-year-old’s death, Brennan added: “I didn’t mock it.

“I just thought it was funny. But I do love it when junkies die.”

When asked why he felt the star’s death was funny, Brennan replied: “Because it’s not very deep.”

Brennan, reports The Mirror, sent the posts from an account promoting his podcast. He is the older sibling of Neal Brennan – the writer and co-creator of Chappelle’s Show.

Although celebrity website TMZ reports the pair are estranged. His post has since received backlasgh from Matthew Perry fans.

One person wrote: “Never heard of this a****** til tonight. Glad not to know him.”

Another wrote: “Are you that desperate to try and stay relevant? Until the TMZ article, no one knew who you were. Millions knew & loved w/o hesitation Matthew.

“His past didn’t change that, and it made him stronger. He passed away with more class, & dignity than you could ever hope to have.”

A third commented: “He recovered. Hopefully, you can recover too.”

Your career that bad that you have to punch down on the recently deceased? How sad,” added another social media user.
