Matthew Perry’s ex-fiancée Molly Hurwitz has shared a touching tribute to the “complicated” actor after he died aged 54.

Hurwitz said her former flame would “love that the world is talking about how talented he was”. In an Instagram post, the 32-year-old said Perry was “very talented”.

The pair were first linked together in 2018 before getting engaged two years later. They parted ways in 2021.

Sharing a tribute to the star, Hurwitz posted an image showing his sillouette. In the background was a snow-covered city.

Hurwitz wrote: “He would love that the world is talking about how talented he was. And he really was very talented.

“As the Friends reunion was approaching, we rewatched the show together. ‘F***, I was so good!!!…See what I did there???’

“We rewound and studied scenes. Our respect and appreciation of humor is something that connected us. Being with him as he rediscovered his brilliance was magical.”

Hurwitz explained she knew “that man in a very different way, too”. She said he had a “profound impact” on her life but highlighted the star’s “complicated” personality.

She continued: “But, I obviously knew that man in a very different way, too. While I loved him deeper than I could comprehend, he was complicated, and he caused pain like I’d never known.

“No one in my adult life has had a more profound impact on me than Matthew Langford Perry. I have tremendous gratitude for that, for everything I learned from our relationship.”

Hurwitz went on to mention Al-Anon. Perry himself was candid about his battles with alcohol and addiction during his life.

He spoke of his struggles in his memoir Friends, Lovers, and the Big Terrible Thing which was published in 2022.

“I loved everything about the show but I was struggling with my addictions which only added to my sense of shame,” he wrote. “If I didn’t get the laugh I was supposed to get I would freak out.

“I felt that every single night. This pressure left me in a bad place. I also knew of the six people making that show, only one of them was sick.”

Perry, one of television’s most recognisable faces played Chandler Bing in Friends for its 10 season run. He was found dead at his Los Angeles home at the weekend.

Co-stars Jennifer Aniston, Courteney Cox, Matt LeBlanc, Lisa Kudrow and David Schwimmer released a statement paying tribute to Perry earlier. They wrote: “We are all so utterly devastated by the loss of Matthew. We were more than just cast mates. We are a family.

“There is so much to say, but right now we’re going to take a moment to grieve and process this unfathomable loss.”

Adding they will ‘say more when they are able’, the message was signed off: “For now, our thoughts and our love are with Matty’s family, his friends, and everyone who loved him around the world.”
