A WALMART employee has allegedly confirmed the store’s policy around its controversial receipt checks.

The member of staff took to TikTok to supposedly clear up confusion over customers’ rights.

TikToker Misty Rain (@misty.rainofficial) responded to a comment from a section where people were supposedly arguing whether staff could Walmart’s receipt-checking policy.

In the video, Misty contradicted a comment that said: “I was in retail management…

“That’s Walmarts policy… sorry”

The TikToker then claimed the store’s employee training, called CBLS, cleared up whether staff could force customers to show their proof of purchase.

In response to the comment, Misty said: “Actually Miss Nicky, I noticed you said was and that’s probably because you don’t know the actual policies.

“If you were a manager you would know that every employee has to do a thing called CBLS.”

Misty then showed a screen that looked like a Walmart system and a message that informed staff what they should do when a customer refused to show their receipt.

The screen showed two steps which were to not force customers to have a receipt check and to thank them for shopping at Walmart.

This page also said: “Your safety is priority!”

Misty then said: “Nowhere on here does it say stand infront of the customer and stop them from leaving because they won’t show you their receipt.”

This video comes as several lawyers have weighed in on this policy.

Lawyer Alex Colangelo said store staff have the right to ask to see your proof of purchase but do not have the right to enforce that, The US Sun has previously reported.

Colangelo said: “Police officers have the power to arrest, but store security and loss-prevention officers are regular people.

“They have much more limited powers of arrest under the criminal code.

“They can ask you to show your receipt and you can consensually allow them to do it.

“But there is no power or authority to detain you if you say no.”

He added that this is applicable to stores like Walmart but not Costco.

As Costco is a membership store, customers should have agreed to show their receipts to staff when they signed up to shop there.
