But few shoppers know that the pricing of each item actually holds information about the product’s cost history.

Costco fan Sean – SuperUnsexy (@superunsexy) recently posted a TikTok video that spells out the meaning of each type of price tag on the shelves.

“This is called the death star in Costco,” he said pointing to a small star in the upper right corner of a shelf price tag in the video.

“It means that there are no more shipments coming in for this item, so if you want it, you better buy it now because you may never see it again,” he said.

Sean gave Costco shoppers other useful advice too.

“When you see a price tag that ends in .99, this is considered standard pricing — it means the item hasn’t yet been marked down,” he said.

“If you see an item that ends in a .00, this is considered a manager special and this is the lowest price this item will ever be,” he added.

“When you see weird numbers like .39, .49, etc., it typically means these items are special deals by a manufacturer on brand name items,” he continued.

But one comment he made was debated by mcmoore619 (@mcmoore619), a user who said she was a Costco employee and that he had gotten something wrong.

“When you see an item that ends in .97 it means this item is on sale and you can consider it clearance, ” Sean said.

To which the user responded: “20 year Costco employee and the .97 does not mean clearance — the .00 does,” mcmoore619 replied.

He also said that if you buy an item and it goes on sale within 30 days of purchase, you can get a refund for the difference from the store.

With almost 400k followers on TikTok, Sean’s video was liked 118k likes and received more than 500 comments.

“Damn I didn’t know they did price protection. That’s sweet. Good info bro,” one person wrote.

“How does one know which is the best day to find mark downs?” another asked.
