The Kansas City Chiefs improved to 7-2 after beating the Miami Dolphins (6-3) in Frankfurt, Germany on Sunday, but the talk surrounding the game centered on the subpart performance by tight end Travis Kelce in the absence of his girlfriend, Taylor Swift. 

The two-time Super Bowl winner had only three catches for 14 yards with no touchdowns as Kansas City beat the Miami Dolphins, 21-14. 

Memes and comments from fans flooded X (formerly Twitter) about the performance, citing how differently Kelce plays when pop star girlfriend Taylor Swift is in attendance. 

‘Kelce has 2 catches for 7 yards and an illegal shift penalty… and Taylor Swift is no where to be seen in Frankfurt,’ one fan said. 

‘I think it’s time for Taylor to decide whether she’s committed to this team or not.’

Kelce’s mother Donna recently credited Travis’ relationship with Swift for taking his game to ‘a new level’ and the numbers have by far proved her right. Fans are beginning to notice and point out Swift’s effect on Kelce not only on social media but on the field. 

Since Swift started appearing at Kelce’s games, the Chiefs have gone 4-0 with her in attendance and 2-1 in her absence. 

 

Before Sunday’s game, in a loss to the Denver Broncos, Kelce had six receptions for 58 yards. While better than his performance in Germany, it was a significant decrease from his 12-for-179 showing against the Chargers, with Swift in the stands, the week before. 

Although it was not the best evening numbers-wise, Kelce’s 14 yards did not come in vain. Aside from the win, Kelce also became the franchise leader in receiving yards (10,941) among tight ends, overtaking Hall of Famer Tony Gonzalez. 

The Chiefs are scheduled to face the Eagles on November 20 while the international leg of Swift’s Eras tour will be in full swing in Brazil.
