THE BBC has admitted making mistakes in its coverage of the Israel-Hamas War.

Its director of nations singled out a reporter’s speculation that Israel fired a rocket which fell outside a Gaza hospital.

Rhodri Talfan Davies said: “Mistakes happen in news reporting.

“It’s an incredibly confusing picture with huge amounts of live broadcasting taking place.

“We made it very clear that we got it wrong.”

Yet he defended the BBC for not calling Hamas “terrorists”.

He said: “We have not taken a single step back in terms of describing the horror of those attacks on the community.”

He was speaking at a Campaign Against Antisemitism-run debate.

David Jordan, director of editorial standards, said: “I can accept the criticisms that have been made about our news coverage.

“But the idea that the BBC anyway endorses or has antisemitism at its core?

“I just can’t agree.”
