A Grammy-nominated gospel singer has clashed with a Delta flight attendant after she refused to stop performing to fellow passengers.

Videos shared on social media shows Bobbi Storm, 36, making several attempts to put on a show for travelers until an airline employee threatens to escort her from the plane.

The Detroit-born vocalist features on the Grammy’s 2024 Best Gospel Album nominee The Maverick Way, by Christian group Maverick City Music.

Footage of the drama starts mid-confrontation, as Storm appears to have stood in the aisle to perform during the flight while an unimpressed attendant orders her back to her seat.

‘I’m charting right now on the billboards,’ Storm says, as the attendant says: ‘Can you just sit down and be quiet?’

‘The seatbelt sign is off. It’s not a disturbance,’ the singer retorts – though she backs down the aisle and slides into her seat all the same.

The passenger beside her films what happens next as the drama escalates. Now back at her seat, Storm starts to tell her origin story to her captive listeners, gaining a mixed reaction.

People sat across the aisle shoot uneasy side-glances in her direction, while one woman appears to be enjoying the spectacle.

‘I used to sing on planes a long time ago,’ Storm says. ‘I just found out I’m up for two Grammys. My very first time, you guys.’

Several passengers applaud as she elaborates: ‘My name is Bobbi Storm, and I’m up for two Grammys.

‘I sing for the Lord, and my song is out on all platforms. It’s called We Can’t Forget Him. I wanna share this with you guys.’

Storm reveals that she was planning to treat passengers to a song as soon as they got on the plane – but rethought this plan because she’s ‘reached the next status’.

But at this point the flight attendant marches back into view and interrupts her spiel, asking her: ‘Are you able to be quiet?’

Storm hits back, claiming the other passengers were ‘enjoying it’.

‘Well I’m not enjoying it,’ the Delta employee retorts. ‘I’m asking you can you please be quiet?’

‘Am I gonna go to jail if I don’t?’ Storm asks him.

Growing visibly frustrated, the Delta employee tells her to ‘please answer the question’, repeating again: ‘Are you willing and able to be quiet right now?’

‘I’m doing what the Lord is telling me to do,’ the singer says.

‘I’m asking you a question, yes or no,’ the airline employee hits back.

‘I’m your flight leader, I need you to follow my instruction. My instructions are for you to answer my question. Are you able to be quiet right now?’

But Storm turns to surrounding passengers instead, asking them: ‘What do you guys think?’ No-one replies.

‘I’m asking you ma’am,’ the attendant retorts dryly, only for Storm to pose her question to her airborne audience again.

The attendant finally resorts to a threat, warning her: ‘If you’re not able to follow my instruction, you will not be taking this flight.’

Storm quickly backtracks. ‘If that’s the case, then that’s fine,’ she says. ‘If you’re the person in charge of it all, then that’s fine.’

‘Ok, alright, thank you,’ the flight attendant says as their conflict seems finally to be over.

But seconds later, Storm turns back to the other passengers and says in quiet tones: ‘I’ll sing it on a low for y’all in the back, if that’s okay.

‘The song is called We Can’t Forget Him’.

Speaking about the attendant she adds: ‘I don’t know the issue. No-one else has ever had an issue.’

She then breaks into song as surrounding passengers look pointedly away from her.

Others give quiet applause as she finishes the verse and plugs her gospel group.

Her performance was widely derided online after videos of the interaction were shared on social media.

‘From Grammy list to no fly zone real quick,’ one person said, while others said it was ‘disrespectful’.

Storm even shared the video on her Instagram account, inviting a second flood of criticism.

‘This could be deemed annoying, people are tired, traveling and don’t want to be bothered,’ one person said.

‘Sharing your gift doesn’t mean bothering other people. I like you and your music, but this isn’t right.

‘You ignored the flight attendant instructions, that’s not Godly. I’m sure most of those could care less about what you had to say. Be respectful of others.’

Others cringed on the singer’s behalf, saying the video ‘gave second hand embarrassment’ and accusing her of ‘showing off’.

But Storm doubled down – posting a follow-up video claiming Delta reached out to her and apologized to her.

The singer even said she hopes the attendant ‘is able to learn a valuable lesson on how to treat other people’.

Speaking about Delta, she tells her 160K followers: ‘They did reach out to me.

‘So whoever called, I can’t say thank you because I don’t want this man to be reprimanded where he loses his job.

‘I simply want us to keep in mind how to treat each other.

‘There was no rules being broken, and it was just me spending my joy with people after they gave me the go to do so.

‘So I just hope that if he watches this he is able to learn a valuable lesson on how to treat other people.’

She signs off her video by saying that Delta employees are ‘fans’ of her music.
