A PROPERTY owner claims his homeowner’s association has persistently harassed him over the maintenance on his land, but he refuses to back down, calling their threats and fines hogwash.
A YouTube content creator, who goes by Erik, has shared his ongoing battle with his HOA, which has threatened to fine him $3,000 for having dead bushes on his property.
Erik has documented his rows with his neighbors and HOA in a series of YouTube videos on his channel, Outdoors with Erik.
The homeowner shared a series of threatening emails he allegedly received from his HOA, citing neighbor complaints about his property’s condition.
Erik explains how several months before the first notice arrived, he and his family were on vacation, and an anonymous neighbor complained that the grass on his property by a creek was tall.
He went on to explain how he agreed with the complaint that the grass was shaggy, so he proceeded to trim the grass.
However, the threats did not stop there – a few weeks later, Erik shared an email from his HOA grumbling over an incident where he left his barn door open and forgot to remove his trash can from the road within 24 hours.

He also received a second complaint about his messy grass, with threats that he could receive a $1,000 fine if the issue weren’t addressed by October 15, 2021, the email read.
Less than a month later, Erik received another warning that he would be fined $3,000 if he did not fix or remove a trio of unkept bushes on his property.
“What kind of nonsense is that,” Erik says in the video, as he then records his trip to a local hardware store where he purchases green spray paint to “fix” the issue.
He spray-painted one tree green and took a commenter’s suggestion, installing Christmas lights on the other two.
However, his HOA did not take his holiday spirit kindly and fined him $4,000 for installing the lights before December 1, citing an HOA violation of section 2.1.1b.
“It’s apparent you continue to not take us seriously by spray painting your brushes vs removing or replacing them, not to mention you did 1 vs all 3,” the email read.
“I’m afraid based on your most recent actions, we are issuing another fine of up to $4,000 ($500 per day) as you violated section 2.1.1b that states ‘Christmas Decorations cannot be illuminated prior to December 1.'”
The message goes on to claim Erik had over $5,000 in fines, and the HOA would be filing a court order to collect the fees.
“I am not paying a damn thing,” Erik proclaims in the video, adding: “This is getting ridiculous, and this is downright harassment.”
It’s unclear if the HOA ever took legal action against Erik or if the issues were resolved.
