(NewsNation) — The jury has reached a verdict in the trial of Kaitlin Armstrong, the yoga instructor accused of shooting and killing Anna Moriah “Mo” Wilson, a professional cyclist.

Armstrong, 35, previously pleaded not guilty to a first-degree murder charge.

The case started when Wilson was found unconscious with gunshot wounds on May 11, 2022 at a friend’s home in Austin, Texas.

Prosecutors say Armstrong killed Wilson out of jealousy, as the cyclist had a brief romantic relationship with her on-again, off-again boyfriend Colin Strickland, another professional cyclist.

Wilson, an emerging star in gravel and mountain bike riding, had been in Austin the day she died ahead of a Texas race she was among the favorites to win.

Before Wilson died, she had gone swimming had a meal with Strickland. He was cleared in her death by motorcycle and phone data showing him traveling away from Wilson’s friends apartment after dropping her off, and also taking a phone call at or near his home around the time she was killed.

After being interviewed by police the day after Wilson’s death, Armstrong fled the country, with authorities saying she used her sister’s passport to escape the United States. After searching for her for 43 days, Armstrong was arrested in Costa Rica in June 2022.

U.S. Marshals said Armstrong’s appearance had changed when she was arrested — her hair was cut and dyed brown, and investigators say Armstrong used plastic surgery to change her nose.

The Associated Press contributed to this report.
