Imelda Mounfield, the wife of Stone Roses’ bassist Gary ‘Mani’ Mounfield has died after suffering from cancer.

On Saturday (18 November), it was announced via social media that Imelda had died three years after being diagnosed with bowel cancer at the age of 52.

Happy Mondays and former X Factor contestant Rowetta took to social media and wrote to her 47,900 X followers: “So beautiful, so brave, so LOVED. We’re all going to miss you @imeldamounfield.

“All my thoughts and love to Mani and your beautiful, precious boys and love to all Imelda’s family & friends.”

Following her post, Mani’s Stone Roses bandmate Ian Brown also took to the platform and said: “RIP @imeldamounfield God bless Mani and his boys.”

Primal Scream bassist Simone Marie said: “Rest in eternal peace Imelda Mounfield. My heart breaks for the immediate family and everyone who knew and loved her.

“A beautiful soul, a huge heart, cutting humour, the strongest spirit, a mother, a wife, a wonderful human. F*** cancer.”

Elsewhere, one fan wrote: “Desperately sorry to hear of the passing of Imelda Mounfield. Such a courageous battle against a horrible disease. Sad times.”

Another said: “This is the saddest news. Only 50. Love to Mani and Imelda’s family & loved ones. Life is really very cruel at times.”

One of Imelda’s friends wrote: “Rest in peace my beautiful courageous friend. The kindest 2nd mum to my daughter, looked after her when I couldn’t, I’ll always be grateful for that.

“Not our best look this pic but sums us up. Always had the most fun. I’ll miss you forever.”

Imelda was diagnosed with stage four bowel cancer in November 2020 and has raised considerable funds for Manchester’s Christie Hospital.

The pair have also spent time raising crucial funds for Maggie’s and The Stockport Charitable Trust.

Speaking about the former, Imelda previously said: “Maggie’s charity has supported from the start, with counselling and using resources to help explain to our children the enormity of cancer and its effects on the whole family.

“It’s a continuing battle for me, and I’ll be using their services more in the future.”

In December 2022, Mani and his wife raised over £100,000 for the charities through an auction of music and culture memorabilia.

Speaking about living with cancer with ITV last year, Imelda said: “It was a huge shock for our family and friends, because I wasn’t poorly.

“The doctors didn’t know how I would respond to chemo, but I responded quite well. I’ve been on quite a big journey over the last two years.”
