A SHOPPER has claimed they were accused of theft at Walmart when trying to look at the retailer’s clearance items.

The fuming customer took to TikTok to post a recording of the incident they seemingly took while cops were called over to asses the situation.

In the clip from influencer Greg Murphy (@gregmurphy77), two police officers could be seen conversing with him and his wife, along with what appeared to be a Walmart employee.

Greg tried to explain to cops that he and his wife and kid were looking over a roped-off checkout area to look at clearance items on the other side, not attempting to steal.

“Cops called for looking at clearance,” an on-screen caption claimed.

One of the officers could be heard asking: “What’s going on? Who called 911?”

The employee responded, “I don’t know — but it was not me.”

The group could be heard discussing what happened, and Greg mentioned, “We were just trying to look at the clearance — they just now put this up,” while pointing to the roped-off section in the store.

Cops quickly asked if the situation was good and started to exit as Greg claimed that a woman who he claimed wasn’t working in the store was yelling at him and his wife for looking into the clearance section.

The TikToker also argued that the woman allegedly threatened to physically attack his wife at one point.

It’s unclear if any of these claims are true, but it also isn’t the first time the influencer was stopped for suspicion of theft.

As The U.S. Sun previously reported, Greg posted another clip in March that showed a security guard arguing with a group of people in front of a Walmart location’s exit before he was seen walking to the cashier to return all of his items.

“When they accuse you of stealing you return that s***,” he wrote in a caption.

In both situations, several viewers issued words of praise to Greg for standing his ground and taking action to return items.

With the TikToker’s most recent clip, one person was baffled at the alleged actions taken by the shopper who called out Greg and his wife.

“Called 911 for something she started,” one person wrote with laughing emojis.

“Dude I’m glad you were able to get your items !! Man they were really acting up for clearance items they didn’t even have purchased….” another wrote.

Several people also tagged Walmart’s official TikTok account in the post.

Even so, some sided with Walmart employees in the incident, arguing that the influencer caused their own problems.

“You keep doing that going behind counters to see what they have locked up! That’s how you cause issues!” one person exclaimed.

“Y’all are just playing the victim,” another argued.

A third added: “That locked cage is behind a register! yeah you probably scared her!”

The U.S. Sun has contacted Walmart for an official comment on the situation and it’s anti-theft measures.

Retail crime has been a problem at the company for some time, with Walmart CEO Doug McMillion noting a “historic high” in theft rates across its stores in December 2022.

Since then, stealing at stores across the United States has been noted by several retail giants, including Dick’s Sporting Goods.

CEO Lauren Hobart even blamed a rise in retail crime as detrimental to second quarter profits, as they decreased by at least 23 percent.

Target also made the shocking announcement that it would shut down nine stores in several major cities due to unprecedented crime and theft.

Closures in New York City, Seattle, and Portland, were confirmed after Target CEO Brian Cornell warned that historically high crime rates could force other executives to make difficult choices.

“We cannot continue operating these stores because theft and organized retail crime are threatening the safety of our team and guests, and contributing to unsustainable business performance,” Target said in a news release.
