How do you bring a murderer to justice?

Oxygen’s new true crime show, Prosecuting Evil with Kelly Siegler, answers that question. In Siegler’s long-running series Cold Justice, we’ve watched Texas’s top prosecutor tackle the most brutal small-town homicides, going to great lengths to assist local authorities investigate cold cases and bring suspects to court. In her new series, Siegler focuses on trials themselves, taking us further into some of the cases she successfully prosecuted in the Lone Star State while giving her expert insight into the intricacies of the courtroom.

“You’re used to seeing the investigation and hoping that we get to the point where we have enough evidence to file charges and move forward. What Prosecuting Evil does it take you from that point forward,” she said in a preview for the series that aired at CrimeCon at Home: Holiday Escape Friday, November 24.

Kelly Siegler’s background as a top Texas prosecutor

Siegler “grew up in the courthouse,” having started as a Harris County prosecutor at just 23 years old. During her career, the tenacious attorney tried approximately 200 jury trials, and some 68 of those were murder cases (20 of which were capital murder death penalty cases). She has much knowledge to share with viewers, and despite two decades in the busiest courthouse in Texas, her passion for justice has not waned. In fact, it has only grown stronger.

“It only takes one juror to say I’m not convinced beyond a reasonable doubt, but Kelly Siegler doesn’t back down. She wouldn’t back down to the devil himself,” said Lester Blizzard, the former chief prosecutor for Galveston and Harris Counties.

Prosecuting Evil shares new details on cases from Siegler’s career

Prosecuting Evil will reveal previously unheard details on some of Siegler’s most heartbreaking cases, including how her team pieces together evidence to present in the courtroom. Bringing her signature intensity to the show, Siegler centers the stories of the victims’ families, showing “the walk that the families take from the moment their loved one is murdered all the way through and beyond a conviction if that happens,” Siegler shared in the preview.

One such case is the trial of Dror Goldberg, who was sentenced to 48 years in prison for the 1998 stabbing murder of Manuela Silverio at her workplace. In Prosecuting Evil, we’ll learn about this senseless killing from a number of perspectives, importantly including those of Silverio’s daughters: “They’re gonna tell you, like I hope every one of our cases does, what it’s really like to walk and live through the criminal justice system. You get to see from the inside out, from upside to the top, from the bad to the good, the criminal justice system at its finest and its worst,” Siegler said.

Tapping her vast professional network for the series, episodes are peppered with anecdotes and insights from investigators and prosecutors from other counties. For the first time ever, we’ll hear “all these cool pieces of the story and all the very stressful moments that no one has ever talked about,” Siegler noted.
