THE high-class veneer of a luxury apartment complex has been shattered after the body of a 24-year-old woman was found in the basement.
The woman’s body was found on Friday afternoon in New York City’s tony Chelsea neighborhood by a building maintenance worker.
The New York Police Department is investigating the woman’s cause of death, which was not immediately released.
The unnamed woman was found stuffed into a trash compactor with trauma to her head and body, a source told The New York Post.
Workers in the luxury condo claimed that the woman was not a resident and they were unsure how she got into the property, according to CBS affiliate WCBS-TV.
Police have not revealed whether they suspect any criminality in the case and it is not known how long her body had been there.
Tenants of the luxury building, where a two-bed condo recently sold for over $2million, were shocked by the news.
A resident claimed a doorman told him that the body was found by a maintenance worker while taking out the trash, according to The New York Post.
The resident said: “It’s terrible. Man, I feel awful for that person.
“We asked what was going on and they just said they found a body.”
His partner added: “It’s a little alarming because we live here.”
