Leon was drafted in third in the 2014 National Hockey League entry draft when he joined the Edmonton Oilers.

He signed a three-year, entry-level contract for the Oilers, and debuted on 9 October 2014.

His first goal at NHL level was just weeks later, and he went on to appear in 37 games that year.

In 2017, Leon became the first Oiler player in decades to have six-straight multi-point games.

That same year, he signed an eight-year $68 million contract extension with the Oilers, with an annual average cap of $8.5 million.

The young star also represents Germany in international tournaments.
