Christie: Trump is 'becoming crazier' and Nikki Haley is 'enabling'

Former New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie claims that Donald Trump is only getting ‘crazier’ through the 2024 election and says Nikki Haley ‘should be ashamed of herself’ for not condemning him.

And while Christie isn’t ruling out working with Haley to defeat the ex-president in the primary, he is worried that she is ‘enabling’ him by saying he is fit to serve another term.

‘He gets worse and worse by the day, Jake, and voters better start paying attention to exactly what he’s saying,’ the anti-Trump candidate said Sunday when speaking with CNN State of the Union host Jake Tapper.

Specifically, Christie was disgusted with Trump quoting Russia President Vladimir Putin during a campaign rally speech in New Hampshire on Saturday evening.

‘Donald Trump realizes the walls are closing in,’ Christie said Sunday. ‘He’s becoming crazier. And now he’s citing Vladimir Putin as a character witness, a guy who is a murderous thug all around the world.’

‘It’s time to send Donald Trump back to Mar-a-Lago permanently,’ he insisted.

During those same rally remarks, Trump went after the former New Jersey governor asking ‘does he have nothing better to do’ than run for president despite his dismal polling numbers.

Speaking to a crowd member who yelled out during the rally, Trump sarcastically quipped: ‘Please do not call Chris Christie a fat pig, okay? It’s not appropriate, because you’re not allowed to use the word fat. You can use the word pig.’

Christie went after fellow 2024 competitor Haley, who is in second place in New Hampshire with just 15 points separating her and Trump.

But Christie claims Haley is not going hard enough against Trump and should be condemning him harder.

‘He’s disgusting,’ Christie said, claiming that the ex-president is blaming economic stressors and recent world conflicts ‘on people from areas that don’t look like us.’

‘The other problem with this is the Republicans who are saying this is okay,’ the Republican candidate added. ‘Almost 100 members of Congress who’ve endorsed him, Nikki Haley, who this week said he is fit to be president. You’re telling me that someone who says that immigrants are poisoning the blood of this country, someone who says Vladimir Putin is a character witness, is fit to be President of The United States was the right place at the right time?’

‘Nikki Haley should be ashamed of herself and she’s part of the problem because she’s enabling him,’ he continued. ‘She’s enabling him by saying to people, it’s okay. Let me be really clear. I’m in this race to let people know it’s not okay. It’s not okay for an American president to be saying these things. And she should be ashamed of herself.’

Haley has not ruled out running as vice president on a 2024 Republican ticket with Trump.

Meanwhile, Christie has made his mark in the primary race as the most staunchly anti-Trump candidate and has repeatedly slammed him for refusing to debate.

‘I’m working on defeating Donald Trump and I’m the only one in the race who is working on defeating Donald Trump,’ Christie told CBS News Face the Nation program when asked Sunday morning if he would ever work with Haley to defeat Trump.

‘When she hasn’t ruled out being his vice president, I don’t think you could take her as a serious contender against him,’ he continued.

‘Ron DeSantis and I have both ruled out accepting the vice presidency from Donald Trump. Nikki Haley has not. That’s why she’s not saying strong things against Donald Trump, why she’s saying he’s fit to be president of the United States.’
