Staff report

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – The Alachua County Winter Term 2023 Grand Jury has indicted Lacorrin Raheem Calhoun, 21, of Alachua, on charges of first-degree murder, attempted armed robbery, possession of a firearm by a felon, and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon in the death of Jaquan Robinson of Ft. White on December 9, 2022. Calhoun has been in the Alachua County Jail since December 22, 2022.

The Grand Jury returned a True Bill on the four charges, finding that Calhoun shot and killed Robinson during an attempted armed robbery and also threatened a second victim with a firearm but had no intent to kill the second victim. Assistant State Attorney Ryan Nagel presented the indictments to the Grand Jury; Judge Susan Miller-Jones received the Grand Jury findings.

The sworn complaint against Calhoun is sealed, but according to a release from Alachua Police Department, several calls reporting multiple gunshots were received at approximately 6:30 p.m. on December 9, 2022; other callers reported that someone had been shot at One 51 Apartments located at 15139 NW 150th Road.

Officers arrived on scene within minutes of being dispatched and located a male subject near building 15139 suffering from a gunshot wound to his left side. Alachua County Fire Rescue arrived on scene and began first aid. The wounded subject was transported to UF Health Shands Hospital by ambulance. While in transport to the hospital, the wounded subject, identified as Robinson, succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased by paramedics.

While officers and paramedics were attending to Robinson, a 911 call was received from a subject who said he was shot in the back. Officers found Calhoun suffering from a gunshot wound to his armpit area in the pasture adjacent to building 15139. First aid was rendered to Calhoun by law enforcement and paramedics. Calhoun was transported to UF Health Shands Hospital in critical condition and was released from the hospital a few days later.

The Criminal Investigations Division conducted several interviews with on-scene witnesses and persons of interest. After several interviews, it was determined that the incident occurred after a drug transaction went wrong. During the course of the investigation, detectives identified Calhoun as the primary aggressor, and a warrant for his arrest was applied for and granted. Calhoun was interviewed at the police station in Alachua on December 22 and arrested on that date.

Calhoun is being held without bond on the homicide charge; bail on the other three charges adds up to a million dollars.

Articles about arrests are based on reports from law enforcement agencies. The charges listed are taken from the arrest report and/or court records and are only accusations. All suspects are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
