Deontay Wilder has hinted that he could retire from professional boxing after his unanimous decision defeat by Joseph Parker, despite also claiming that he could ‘have a little bit left’.

Rumors had suggested this week that the American had signed a two-fight contract to step into the ring with Anthony Joshua next year, but Wilder was remaining coy over his future plans claiming: ‘We’ll see what happens.

‘We still have a little bit left, but I did a great job managing my money,’ he told DAZN Sports after the fight.

On whether a potential bout against Anthony Joshua could have been a distraction, he added: ‘A little bit. It was a lot of talk about a lot of things. We make no excuses. We’ll be back for sure.

‘We have a little bit more left. I’ve done a great job with managing my money and investing. I’m a happy fighter. I’ll be back soon and if not, it’s been a pleasure.

The fight was adjudghed 118-111, 118-110 and 120-108 in Parker’s favour, with Wilder now having suffered the third defeat of his career.

The 38-year-old American, who now holds a record of 43-3-1, added that while he could potentially return to the ring, he was content with what he had achieved in his life.

‘I’ve found a lot of peace and happiness in my life,’ he said.

‘I’ve been wearing this smile all week long. I’m blessed. I gave it all I’ve got. You can’t quit or give up, you must keep going.’

His long-standing rival Anthony Joshua, meanwhile, is set to take on Otto Wallin next on the ‘Day of Reckoning’ card, but many had predicted the Brit to go head-to-head with Wilder next year.

Rumours had been circulating that they had ‘agreed a two-fight deal’ to end what has been six years of failed negotiations.

Eddie Hearn had said before the fight that if neither of the fighters win then they may not meet in 2024, and he added after the fight that it may have scuppered their plans for next year.

‘I said in the build-up I don’t rate him,’ Hearn said to TNT Sports.

‘Wilder had no idea, no clue. He lost every round. He had his hand up telling the referees he won the fight. He’s not right. That’s the reality.

‘It was the most one-sided heavyweight fight I’ve ever seen. It’s ruined our plans. We’ve got to go let Anthony Joshua know Wilder lost to Parker.’

He added: ‘We must win this fight. And after that, I’m nervous.’
