GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Isaac Sanchez-Garcia, 40, was arrested yesterday after allegedly shooting a woman after an argument over a dog biting a child; he was also charged with possession of a weapon by a convicted felon and tampering with evidence.

At about 11:40 a.m. yesterday, Alachua County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to a call about an armed disturbance in a neighborhood north of the 6900 block of SW Archer Road. The victim told deputies that her infant daughter had been bitten in the face by a family dog while Sanchez-Garcia was supposed to be watching the child. The child’s father began yelling at another person in the home about inattention to the child, and Sanchez-Garcia reportedly came inside the house from a room that is attached to the back of the house.

Sanchez-Garcia reportedly fought with the father of the child until Sanchez-Garcia was injured, at which point he went back to the attached room and allegedly came back holding a handgun. The child’s father reportedly took the child out the front door, but the child’s mother stayed inside and said that Sanchez-Garcia fired a shot in her direction, hitting a wall several feet away from her.

The owner of the home gave consent to search the residence, and deputies reportedly found a live 9mm round just outside the back door and a spent 9mm shell casing just inside the back door. A bullet impact was reportedly found on the dining room wall; that bullet reportedly exited the other side of the wall through a bathroom mirror and lodged in a door frame. No firearm was located during the search.

Sanchez-Garcia reportedly gave consent to search his room, and that search reportedly produced multiple 9mm rounds and a magazine for a 9mm handgun. The bullets were reportedly the same brand as the ones found inside the house.

Post Miranda, Sanchez-Garcia reportedly said he and the child’s father had gotten into a fight over the dog bite and that he had gone out the back door after he was injured. He reportedly denied having a gun and said the gunshot in the wall was from an accidental discharge that happened several days ago. He reportedly changed his story multiple times but never admitted firing the shot and refused to give deputies the location of the gun.

Sanchez-Garcia has eight felony convictions (none violent) and four misdemeanor convictions (none violent). He has a pending charge for petit theft for allegedly stealing $77.95 in items from Walmart in September 2023. Judge Meshon Rawls set bail at $110,000.

Articles about arrests are based on reports from law enforcement agencies. The charges listed are taken from the arrest report and/or court records and are only accusations. All suspects are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
